HISTORY

The Victor Valley Child Abuse Task Force was formed in 1982 with the mission of stemming a rising tide of child abuse, neglect, abandonment and death in the High Desert.

In 1992, the name was changed to the Happy Trails Children's Foundation, to reflect the support of legendary Western entertainers Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.  A generous bequest from George Harold Cooper provided the financial base for a home for severely abused and neglected children.

The Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Celebrity Golf Tournament was established in 1989 and has raised over $300,000 for the benefit of the Cooper Home.  Spring Valley Lake Country Club has been an outstanding host throughout the years.  The generous support of the community along with the celebrity participation, has made this tournament the premiere Tournament of the High Desert!

Today the Cooper Home serves as a long-term residential treatment center for 44 severely abused boys, between the ages of 9 and 15.

THE FUTURE

Unfortunately, child abuse is on the increase.  We have an immediate need to expand the Cooper Home so that we can accommodate more abused children.  Our next project is to build a third cottage on our campus that will house 24 more boys, bringing our total up to 68 children receiving long-term residential care and treatment services.  This much needed-needed project is estimated to cost in excess of $500,000!

As Roy and Dale have said, "Together, all of us can make a difference for our beloved nation's greatest treasure, our children."
