Trailblazers in Action

The year 2001 was a pivotal year for the Happy Trails Children’s Foundation.  The blue print for the future development plan for the Cooper Home is very exciting.  The Board of Directors and all of the people who support the Foundation are committed to turning this architectural plan into a reality.  However, we need your help!

The Trailblazers are a group of enthusiastic community members who have chosen to be actively involved with the Happy Trails Children’s Foundation, to raise funds that support a protective and enriched educational and living environment for abused children.

At a recent meeting, Dave Cavit, the Membership Chairman of the Trailblazers and Joel Dortch, Executive Director of the Foundation, presented the concept of establishing a “club” to broaden our current membership and give an opportunity to enthusiastic, interested individuals and families around the world to join with us and “make the dream” happen for the special young people who live at the Cooper Home.

Join the Trailblazer Club, become a volunteer member today!  There are several membership categories outlined in the application.  The greatest reward you will receive from your membership is the knowledge that you are directly helping the young men at the Cooper Home.  They are being given an opportunity to restructure their view of the world.  As a Club Member, you become a direct link to giving them that opportunity.

Our goal is to make membership possible for everyone.  As you review the financial structure of the levels of membership, we invite you to find the level that is right for you.  Whether you live in the High Desert, New England, Texas, Europe, etc.  You are invited to become a volunteer member today!

We will stay in touch with you through this newsletter, the Happy Trails web site, e-mail, special mailings and possibly the telephone.  When there are “happenings” that have to do with the Happy Trails Children’s Foundation, you will be the first to know!

There is much more that I will share with you in future articles.  I am excited and look forward to having you join the Trailblazers Club!  Together we can accomplish “mighty” things for abused children.  Fill out your application today and phone or mail it to the Foundation.

Come with us along “Happy Trails”……

Joel Dortch, Executive Director

Legendary western entertainers Roy Rogers and Dale Evans spent a lifetime devoted to children and their support of children in need is well known.  The Happy Trails Children’s Foundation is proud to carry on the important work with children begun by Roy and Dale.  We invite your participation.

At the present time, the Cooper Home for abused children, a project of the Happy Trails Children’s Foundation, is operating at maximum capacity of 44 boys between the ages of 10 and 15, with a lengthy waiting list!  Situated on 40 acres of land in the High Desert, the Cooper Home is surrounded by panoramic vistas of snow-capped mountains and natural desert terrain under healthy, smog-free skies.  The pleasant cottages and well-manicured outdoor play areas provide a peaceful, serene environment in which children can begin the healing process.

Since the Cooper Home opened in 1997, more than 450 children have received residential care and treatment services.  A current project is to build a third cottage on campus to increase our capacity to 68 beds.  This much needed new building will cost in excess of $500,000.  Please join us, we need your assistance and support!
