The winning ticket for
the beautiful and unique Silver Screen Legend VII
Colt revolver and gorgeous Hollywood style hand
carved and silver mounted buscadero holster and belt
was drawn at our Curly’s Cowboy Christmas dinner and
show on Sunday evening, December 19, 2004. The
lucky winner is Mr. Joseph Benoit pictured on the
right with Joel "Dutch" Dortch, Executive Director
of Happy Trails Children's Foundation. Joseph
Benoit of Descanso, CA near San Diego, where he is
the new owner of a feed and tack store.
Joe is the first
winner to actually be present at the time of the
drawing. He told an interesting story of how
he ran away from home in Vermont at the age of 12,
to go to California and live with Roy Rogers and
help Roy with his horses. Of course, he didn’t
make it very far at that time although he did get to
meet Roy many years later and purchased two of Roy’s
horses, offspring of Trigger Jr., on behalf of his
employer at the time. He also told of losing
his gun collection and everything else he owned in
the huge
Cedar wildfire that consumed vast areas of
San Diego County in October 2003.
Joe wore the Silver
Screen Legend VII gun belt and holster for a photo
op and it looked like it was custom made for him.
He was one very happy cowboy. Even though the
final total is yet to be determined, it appears that
total ticket sales in 2004 will approach $80,000!
